How Many Boxes of Laminate Do You Need?
To find laminate boxes, multiply room length by width for the square footage, add 10 percent waste, then divide by the coverage per box. A 14 by 16 foot room is 224 square feet, about 246 with waste, which is 12 boxes at around 20 square feet each. The calculator gives the box count from your product's coverage, which varies by plank size.
How Much Waste for Laminate Flooring?
Use 10 percent waste for straight-lay laminate and 15 percent for diagonal patterns or rooms with lots of corners. Laminate planks are long, so cuts at the ends of rows create offcuts, some of which start the next row and reduce waste. Keeping one spare plank for repairs is wise. The calculator defaults to 10 percent and lets you raise it for complex layouts.
