How Do You Calculate How Much Stone You Need?
To calculate stone, multiply length by width for the area, then by the depth in feet for cubic feet, and divide by 27 for cubic yards. Multiply cubic yards by about 1.35 for tons. A 25 by 15 foot area at 3 inches deep is about 93.75 cubic feet, roughly 3.47 cubic yards, or 4.7 tons. The calculator handles this and lets you add a waste allowance.
Is Stone Sold by the Yard or the Ton?
Landscape stone is sold both by the cubic yard and by the ton, depending on the supplier and stone type. One cubic yard of stone weighs roughly 1.35 tons, though heavier stones differ.
