How Do You Calculate Rebar Weight?
To calculate rebar weight, multiply the total linear feet of bar by the weight per foot for the size. The standard weights are: #3 at 0.376, #4 at 0.668, #5 at 1.043, and #6 at 1.502 pounds per foot. So 500 feet of #5 rebar weighs about 522 pounds, or 0.26 tons. The calculator applies the right per-foot weight for your bar size and converts to tons for large orders.
What Do Rebar Size Numbers Mean?
Rebar size numbers refer to the bar diameter in eighths of an inch: a #4 bar is 4 eighths, or 1/2 inch, and a #5 is 5/8 inch. Bigger numbers mean thicker, heavier and stronger bars. The size determines both the weight per foot and the structural capacity, which is why the calculator is size-specific: a foot of #6 weighs four times a foot of #3.
