How Do You Calculate Bricks for a Wall?
To calculate bricks for a wall, multiply the wall area by 7 (single wythe) or 14 (double wythe), then add 10 percent waste. A 30 by 6 foot single-wythe wall (180 square feet) needs about 1,260 bricks, or 1,390 with waste. Wall thickness is the key variable beyond area, since a structural double-thickness wall uses twice the brick. The calculator handles both wythe counts and the mortar.

A wythe is a single continuous vertical thickness of brick, one brick deep.
